Neighbour to Neighbour Jack Parent Reading Program

Offered in select schools on Hamilton Mountain since 2003 the Neighbour to Neighbour Jack Parent Reading Program serves children in grades 1-3. Trained volunteers not only help children who are reading below grade level improve their literacy skills, but they help build a child’s self-confidence through one-on-one interaction.

Research shows that if a child is not reading at grade level by the end of grade 3, that child will struggle with learning throughout their academic career. The Neighbour to Neighbour Jack Parent Reading Program addresses the need for early literacy intervention.

Reading with a tutor makes reading fun.”
~ Student

Model of the Program

  • Literary assistance provided during the school day at select schools
  • Tutors work with 4-5 students, one-on-one, for 20-30 minutes
  • Students are seen 2-3 times per week
  • Tutors are instructed and supervised by retired and certified educators

Thank you for your invaluable support. It makes a huge difference to the children and reinforces what I do in class.”
